Music at Washington St. was a series of experimental and improvised music featuring musicians from around New England as well as visiting musicians from around the world. The series was started in 2012 by Morgan Evans-Weiler and Michael Rosenstein and was later co-curated by Michael Rosenstein and Jesse Kenas Collins. The series ended in April 2023 and is no longer active.
Music at Washington Street presents a great night of improvised music with Steve Norton / Tom Plsek duo, a solo set by Mr. Dirky, and the trio In Transit (Kozue Matsumoto, koto; Patrick Behnke, viola; Chris Foss, shakuhachi + bassoon) from LA.

Steve Norton and Tom Plsek—I still remember trudging through the snow on a February night in the 90s to hear these two knock it about with Gino Robair at WMFO. They’ve worked together as part of the epic quartet Kobold, and in ensembles mining the music of Anthony Braxton. They are still at it and still going strong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGYq5q55vWw
Mr. Dirky is Dirk Adams making sounds from uncovered detritus, gltiched and cracked recordings, sputtering mechanical objects, and ravaged vocals. https://soundcloud.com/mrdirky/
In Transit (Kozue Matsumoto, koto; Patrick Behnke, viola; Chris Foss, shakuhachi + bassoon) is an improvised collaboration of traditional Japanese and traditional Western instruments. Based in Los Angeles, the ensemble mediates a series of dichotomies in the sonic language of two cultures as well as the new and old language within each culture to arrive in a unique landscape. The name, In Transit, stemmed from a meditative moment watching flower petals move in an organized way across a puddle and a joke about public transportation announcements. https://soundcloud.com/in_transit
