Covid-19 Projects

Washington Street Arts is currently closed to the public. However many of the studio members are working on projects in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some of the current projects.

Bess Paupeck — As a maker and curator deeply interested in collecting the stories of my community, I am beginning to gather and document our daily life experiences from this unusual time of global crisis due to the covid-19 virus. We all have a lot to share right now, so I wanted to start officially collecting our thoughts by creating a place to document our new truths from the now normal.

Lauren Leone — In the summer of 2020, Lauren Leone and her husband Mike Gintz organized a pandemic zine exchange for the purpose of community building and creating a pandemic time capsule. They invited 40+ people (including Washington Street members Catherine Aiello, Lee Kilpatrick, Kerrie Kemperman and Athena Moore) to create mini-zines about their experience of the pandemic.

Catherine Aiello — In spring 2020, when the cafe I worked at was closed for two months, I started noticing and drawing the handmade signs that restaurants and businesses were posting in their windows to communicate their current situation, new hours, or new rules. You can view them on my website or purchase a zine I made about the project here.
